BIOGRAPHY Camille Maloisel-Granel
Camille Maloisel-Granel was born in 1954 and brought up in Toulouse
and southwest France.
As a child she was very intrigued by her paternal grandmother’s
painting techniques, which certainly influenced her to choose art as a
career.
In 1971 she went to study art in Paris at the Ecole Nationale des Arts
Camille has always been inspired by journeys and multicultural experiences
the flow of her work portrays this. Over the following 5 years she travelled
to India, Africa, Italy, Greece, Spain, Mexico where she discovered the
Muralistes-Diego Rivera. This ethnic experience of colourful journeys
continued to develop and guide her artwork. Multi ethnic symbols and graphic
patterns plus her flair for “interior design” can be recognised
in most of her artwork. An illustration of this was her first art exhibition,
which took place in 1984 in Cancun.
The following year she spent in Los Angeles, which added a new
dimension to her work.
Returning to Paris Camille continued to develop her artwork and
painting techniques.
She embarked on a new venture in the psychiatric sector, teaching art and
techniques to carers who then are trained to deliver art workshops to mental
health patients.
She continued to organise a series of exhibitions in the Paris area and works
with the urban art group Une Nuit. Following one of these at the Polynesian
Delegation in Paris the delegation staff were so enthusiastic about her work
on the theme of their home country that they purchased one of the exhibits.
Another of her unusual strands of work in Paris was the development of
special techniques so the visually impaired could enjoy and feel art at a
very successful exhibition at the Mairie du 7e and Palais des Congrés in 1996 and 1997.
